Neutral hues reflect the world’s natural bounty, from oceanside cliffs and sandy beaches to the many facets of a tree-filled forest. Always inviting, neutrals effortlessly enhance both interiors and exteriors. From contemporary beige and subtle grays, lighter neutral colors suit any style of design while creating a welcoming backdrop to bold colors, allowing for visual balance in a room.

Darker neutrals like rich brown and black hues can stand out, or act as part of a base in a color palette--such as modern farmhouse, or something more dramatic. When working with neutrals, look for undertones to differentiate them: A drop of red may present as a pinkish hue, while a hint of green could provide a mossy undertone. It’s important to select a neutral with a similar undertone to that of your other colors.
